Overview — U.S. Mission Trips
More About Missions
Be part of a life-changing experience in communities that struggle with the challenges of life. By serving alongside the community, your group or family group will gain new insights, break down barriers, and build relationships.
World Vision, a global leader in empowering under-resourced communities, welcomes you on a weeklong journey that will:
- CHALLENGE your team members to grow
- INSPIRE hope in others
- BUILD a lasting sense of dignity and purpose among those you serve
The trips will transform both your community and the community where you serve. "It's changed my life," a recent participant said. "I like helping people out now."
Mission trips will be open to youth groups and family groups on selected days in June and July in Immokalee, Florida; Smith Lake, New Mexico; and Appalachia in West Virginia and Ohio.
Each trip lasts a week but can result in a lifetime of change.
Smith Lake, New Mexico
World Vision partners with Cornerstone Ministries, a Navajo-led organization that supports churches across the Navajo Nation. Cornerstone recently begun a strategic initiative to build and repair homes in the Bennett Freeze area on the Navajo Nation. Federal law made it illegal to repair or build new homes in this region for more than 40 years. Though the law has been repealed, the need for good housing is greater than ever. Mission teams will assist Cornerstone Ministries as they repair homes and do other light construction projects. Learn more...
Appalachia, West Virginia
Mission teams will have the opportunity to build relationships with local residents through on-site building projects and, when possible, by working side-by-side with children from the community. Construction projects typically include work on community centers, churches, community facilities, World Vision ministry sites, and private homes. Our work with children occurs through partnerships with local communities and churches. Opportunities to engage with children are limited and do not occur on every mission experience. Learn more...
Immokalee, Florida
Teams will learn about the challenge of working and living in an agricultural community where the work is seasonal and opportunities are scarce. We will serve the Immokalee community by volunteering with local organizations, churches and schools. Your team may do light construction work, work directly with children in an afterschool program, or work alongside a local nonprofit organization. Learn more...
Disaster Relief—Tuscaloosa, Alabama
World Vision invites you to help those affected by natural disasters in the United States. Volunteers will work alongside community members, World Vision staff, and other responding organizations to help restore hope and dignity to disaster survivors. Groups will work on construction projects and distribute supplies.
For 2012, volunteer teams are needed to serve in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, where devastating tornadoes struck in May 2011. Due to the unique needs and circumstances of disaster relief, all participants must be age 16 and older. Minimum group size is five. Learn more...
"This week has really shown me how it's not always really about me. It's more about what we do with other people."— Lydia, mission participant
