Youth Group/Family Group Leader Training — U.S. Mission Trips

Our training for group leaders to all our domestic mission sites has been developed by World Vision U.S. Programs staff with more than 15 years of experience in short-term missions and community development, and also draws on World Vision's more than 60 years experience in global ministry.

Youth group/family group leader training focuses on transformational community development, in which we help children, families, and communities move toward fullness of life. This is a unique opportunity to learn some of the best practices in community development in the country, all of which are transferable to your community. You will receive specific tools to help prepare your team for ministry both on-site and after they return home. The curriculum incorporates new activities every year in a three-year cycle and includes training on:

Leader training materials for 2012 mission trips will be mailed by April 1, 2012.

Youth Group/Family Group Pre-Trip Orientation to Smith Lake or Immokalee

Before your youth group or family group comes to Smith Lake or Immokalee, we invite your leader (and members selected by your leader) to participate in a community orientation via conference call. We will answer questions and help prepare your group for your upcoming trip with information on your group's mission project, children's ministry opportunities, and other details.

Youth Group/Family Group Leader Visit to Appalachia

Before your entire youth group or family group comes to Appalachia, we invite your leader for a one-day visit to get a feel for the type of community in which your group will be working. A leader may bring up to six people from your group for this visit.

World Vision U.S. Programs will provide your leader with information on your group's mission project, children's ministry opportunities, and other details. Your contingent will be able to meet World Vision staff members and other church team members with whom your group will be working on the mission project, as well as with the Appalachian families you will be serving.

World Vision does not charge for this visit, but your leader and group will need to cover their travel and hotel accommodation costs. A listing of hotels and motels will be provided in your registration packet.
