Training Focuses on Building Parent Skills
More than 40 trainers participated in a recent workshop designed to expand trainers’ skills in teaching parents about adolescent sexuality. World Vision and the Medical Institute for Sexual Health hosted the three-day training in late April, which attracted participants from across the nation and Honduras.
The “Building Family Connections” training took place in Dallas. Developed by the Medical Institute, the training focuses on increasing parental involvement in abstinence education, and aims to ultimately postpone the age of sexual debut in adolescents nationwide. During this event, trainers learned how to give parents and other adults hands-on skills to help youth grow up safe, smart, and strong. This included guiding parents as they learn to discuss sexual health and abstinence, connect with their children, and adopt effective communication and decision-making strategies.
The training was funded by a grant received from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. This event is one of the many opportunities World Vision makes available to churches, schools, and community organizations that partner with us.
