Answer Our President's Call - Volunteer

Answer the Call to Volunteer in Chicago!

chicago-News-vol056224.jpgPresident Obama recently launched “United We Serve,” calling on Americans to join in volunteer service to help lift their communities out of economic need.

In a video message aired in late June, Obama said that “the challenges we face are unprecedented in their size and scope, and we cannot rely on quick fixes or easy answers to put us on the road to recovery . . . Economic recovery is as much about what you’re doing in your communities as what we’re doing in Washington—and it’s going to take all of us, working together.”

Volunteerism can make a significant impact in building a new foundation for our nation’s future, the president said.

Your contribution counts! World Vision in Chicago invites you to join us as a volunteer working to help alleviate poverty in the United States. By serving through World Vision, you are caring for some of the families hardest hit by the economic crisis—those already living in poverty before the downturn.

chicago-News-volPC130488_0036_036.jpgWorld Vision volunteers make a big difference for children and families in need. Last year alone, World Vision partnered with more than 9,200 volunteers, who provided nearly 95,000 hours of service in distressed communities across the nation. In Chicago, 738 volunteers provided vital services in 2008.

Volunteers tutor and mentor, help with community fairs and back-to-school block parties. They also package and organize donated product at our eight warehouse facilities nationwide. Your help is needed to stock shelves, unpack donated items, and sort school supplies.

This outreach experience can be tailored for individuals or groups. Churches, families, friends, and coworkers all are invited to make this a memorable activity that gives back to your community.
